Keep it simple: you get enough steaks to feed his people and side grill car as follows closely before Bayou Country Superfest. Or, try one of the other simple - to - make recipes from our files.

Before the big names of the acts take the stage at Bayou Country Superfest 2014, the game will be well advanced on the outside of Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge. LSU fans are very familiar with this scene. For the uninitiated, we have gathered tips and menu suggestions for a smooth experience.

The annual country music festival is scheduled for the first time in three days of execution on May 23, May 24 and May 25 with headliners George Straight, Reba, Jason Aldean and Luke Bryan. (Single-day tickets are still available.)
With sales of advanced parking already sold out - and the promise of a day of country music - the scene outside Tiger Stadium is likely to be bigger than ever. Anyone familiar with what happens at school before a game out of the conference in the fall LSU recognize the sights, sounds, although probably more twangy top 40 .

Pockets of tailgaters can get a little noisy, but most people are families with children napping in a hammock or groups of friend’s party before they catch their favorite artists on stage. Last year, we met a mother and daughter couple from Canada who quickly made friends with a number of tailgaters.

From 11am to 5pm each day before concert , free Fan Fest takes place in Lot A at Tiger Stadium on Nicholson Drive, which is right behind the building of the LSU Athletic Administration vs. Mike habitat tiger. The lineup for that part of the festival features music and food. DJs from radio stations WTGE , WYNK WNOE area and host the games and the annual "Artist Meet & Greet" area yield , which offers the opportunity to take photos and autographs with SNAG many of the artists of the day.

For people who prefer to grill, boil or make your own food otherwise, tailgating is the way to go. Once inside the gates, the festival offers stadium dishes, such as hot dogs, pizza and fries. (Yes, Festival Production Inc., the same company that makes New Orleans Jazz Fest, is behind Bayou Country Superfest, but do not expect bread lobster and crab po-boys soft- shell.)

Bayou Boogaloo Festival Organizers Help Revive Dead Oak Trees By Turning Them InTo Scultped Artwork

When Bayou Boogaloo starts this weekend will be a 14-foot- high sculpture of a carnival of India in the backdrop along Bayou St. John. Sculptor Marlin Miller, who carved a sculpture of a dead tree along the marshes to the festival last year, returned this year to complete this work.

In 2013, the artist Marlin Miller created a wooden sculpture depicting wildlife and musical instruments out of an oak tree 30 feet dead in Bayou St. John near Orleans Avenue. He finished just in time for Bayou Boogaloo.

But there was still something missing.

The oak 4 feet wide and 14 feet high are supposed to have an Indian carnival carved on one side of it. Rainy weather prevented him from finishing the project last year, so this year is back in the same oak tree for you a picture of Mardi Montana Indian Chief at the same Gras.

"I wanted to be careful to not violate any traditions or cultures anyway," Miller said, noting that he received the blessing of Montana before starting the project. Once completed, you can paint with airbrush on yellow and orange gold.

“The color will be very bright on it and you will be able to see that when you come this way by Orleans Avenue," he said.

His work is part of a campaign sponsored by Bayou Boogaloo, to restore the trees along the historic waterway Bayou St. John. Since Hurricane Katrina in 2005, has transformed trees killed by the storm and flooding in sculpture. Anyone traveling across USA 90 of Biloxi, Mississippi, has seen his work on increasing the neutral ground.

“When a large historic tree dies, this is just a way to give it a few more years," he said.

You can check out the work of Miller finished top this weekend when the Bayou Boogaloo starts. The festival will be held May 16 to 18. Here is the full schedule for the music festival.

Cultural History And The Bayou City Food And Film Festival: Houston Matters For Friday, May 2, 2014

Last month, the school board voted unanimously to Houston to support the teaching of Mexico American history and culture to students over high school.

The decision means the state wants largest school district the Texas Education Agency to include this type of cultural class in the new state graduation plan. HISD Superintendent Terry Grier said in a statement that in a diverse community, the district has an obligation to show students that the country and state history "includes people who look like them." Over 60 percent of HISD students are Hispanic.

Next, the Board of Education of the State of Texas agreed tentatively to solicit bids for the design of instructional materials for the four ethnic studies courses - Mexican- American studies, African American studies, American Indian and Asian American studies - that could be offered in high schools throughout the state from two years.

No mandate for districts to offer these courses. They would have to use the materials in case you choose to offer. And students would take these courses as electives.

Some oppose the measure say that local districts to develop curriculum and purchase textbooks on their own, so there is no need for state involvement. Others say that classes only more divisions between people of different origins, as there is no Irish-American or Italian-American studies course.

How should we teach history in the classroom? How should we decide what is taught and whose stories get told - and how? What are the courses and textbooks of the past and present got right and what have they got wrong about quite diverse representing the number and type of stories that make up the cultural fabric of the United States?

In this edition of the Houston business, speak with Houston Public Media reporter Laura Isensee education about what these last votes for local school districts and how cultural history is taught here in Houston.

Then we found out a couple of Houston educators who have had firsthand experience with the development and history curricula and teaching ethnic studies.
